Government House,

Hongkong, 13th.August,1910.

Dear Mr. Max-Muller,

I am glad to learn from your letter of the

31st. instant that the Chinese Authorities are alive to the

necessity of joining the Canton-Kowloon, and the Canton-Hankow

Railways.

I note that there may be difficulty in

arranging for joint management for the Canton-Kowloon Railway.

Such an arrangement is manifestly in the

common interest of both sections and I trust that the Chinese

Authorities will come to recognise that fact.

In the meantime I await the reply of the

Wai Tu Pu to your communication.

Then this Goverment learns the arguments

or grounds upon which they object to it if object to it they

do

EN

it will be in a position to meet them.

In the meantime, I need hardly remind you

that His Majesty's Government attach the greatest importance to

the proposals of this Government being sccppted.

Yours sincerely,

(Sd.) F. H. May.
